Dublin Eco Hub is more than a landfill. On this site, we have a number of environmental practices that support the surrounding areas.
We recover as many recyclables as possible, with only the remaining waste going into our engineered landfill.
Research and development also takes place here, with the University of SA undertaking a research project on the optimisation of photocopying technology using engineered growth media and selected native plant species.
The rehabilitation and maintenance of flora on our site is supported by Red Centre Enterprises, who propagate native plants at our onsite native nursery.
We work closely with The Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park and collaborate on projects.
IWS fenced off an area nearly 25 years ago for conservation purposes. This area contains old growth mallees with intact native shrub understory, providing important bird habitat.
In 2020, a survey undertaken by Landscape SA showed 74 naturally occurring native plant species, this is considered a high diversity for this region. This is one of the larger vegetation patches in the district, making this a valuable remnant.
IWS is committed to protecting this area and to support it when rehabilitating the Dublin Eco Hub.
Our site is also home to our Living Earth composting facility where organics received from the Green Bin is processed into a high quality compost.
